When using the digital copies of the Miscellanea Curiosa and its successor journals on the journals portal of the Thuringian State and University Library, Jena, the following points are to be considered:
The Miscellanea Curiosa were also created as separate journals, just like their successor and translated titles, which can be accessed via a link in the overview of the journals.
Miscellanea Curiosa … from 1671 to 1706
Academiae Caesareae-Leopoldino Carolinae Natvrae Curiosorvm Ephemerides from 1712 to 1722
Acta … from 1727 to 1754
Nova Acta … from 1757 to 1791
Römisch-Kaiserlichen Akademie der Naturforscher … scientific papers from 1755 to 1771
Medicinische Beobachtungen from 1799
Index volumes from 1695 and 1739, belonging to the decuries of the Miscellanea Curiosa as well as to the volumes of the Academiae … Ephemerides
All volumes, including reprints, can be found in the overview of the journals. After a volume has been selected, an overview of the volume is displayed as well as specific structural data that has been catalogued from within the volume.
Elements such as the title page, dedication(s), table of contents, forewords and index are recorded.
In all volumes excluding translations, and generally at the start of a volume, contributor catalogues can be found, in which all contributors to the Observationes are listed. Links to the contributors can also be found there.
In addition to all the Observationes themselves, all papers in the appendix of the volume are also recorded.
Observationes are catalogued by title, author, page range and any other noteworthy details, such as illustrations or errors. If multiple versions of Observationes exist, for example via reprints or translations, they are linked to one another.
Search can be performed on the level of all entries in UrMEL, on the level of individual journals or volumes. In order to see Observationes with illustrations, the search term “illustrations” is recommended at the relevant search level.
The data records of individual persons are obtained from the Integrated Authority File (GND); however, they are not automatically updated. The GND should therefore be consulted to obtain the latest information regarding an individual person.
The following particularities are also to be considered regarding some volumes:
In the double volumes V/VI, VII/VIII and IX/X of the Academiae … Ephemerides the Observationes are double counted, as they each comprise two parts.
The complete translation of several Observationes from the first part of the series of translations can be found in the appendix of the fourth part. Many other Observationes have not been translated.
The project team can be contacted with regard to correction of errors or other issues.
